Wi-Fi, or Wireless Fidelity, offers you the chance to connect you to the Internet wirelessly, whether you are in your hotel room, at a cafe, at home, or in a conference room.

The Wi-Fi phenomenon is expanding rapidly. Wi-Fi networks use radio technologies called IEEE 802.11b or 802.11a to provide a secure, reliable, and fast wireless connectivity to the Net.

According to some of the latest statistics, there are now more than 61,000 Wi-Fi Hotspots in 98 countries.

If you have a Wi-Fi enabled device and travel abroad or within the U.S., this means you don't have to leave your broadband connection while on the road, as Wi-Fi can offer 11 Mbps (802.11b) or 54 Mbps (802.11a) data transfer rates.

Keep Up-to-date on Wi-Fi Technology

These pages have the aim of being your source for basic and advanced information on Wireless Fidelity technology and the next generation of Wi-Fi networks, dubbed "WiMax".

You're probably familiar with the term Wi-Fi hotspot, which refers to the range of Wi-Fi networks (about 150 feet maximum), which is not very extensive (thus the "spot" in hotspot). The upcoming WiMax technology (which uses different standard, IEEE 802.16) has a reach of one to 10 miles.

It is expected that the year 2007 will be the year of WiMax, but before that, Wi-Fi will keep on expanding, partly assisted by the 802.11e standard (the current popular standards are 802.11a/b/c), which has been developed to offer full multimedia quality of service over Wi-Fi.

The pages will provide analysis of the latest developments on this fronts, so you'll always be informed about the possibilities brought by new advances in Wi-Fi technology.

If you're looking for places to use your Wi-Fi enabled device, there's also a Wi-Fi hotspot directory.

Wi-Fi hotspots and WiMax locations are appearing everywhere in the U.S. Wi-Fi Guide Wi-Fi hotspot directory provides listings for the bigger and many smaller cities hotspots, so that you can get all the information you need to know about wireless fidelity from one place.
