Virgin Mobile Cell Phone Plans

Virgin Mobile cell phone plans are pay-as-you-go prepaid plans, with no contracts, commitments, monthly bills, or hidden fees.

Virgin Mobile is another company from the serial entrepreneur, rebel billionaire Richard Branson.

Other well-known U.S. Virgin businesses include Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Megastores, and Virgin Pulse (sells personal electronics). Coming soon: Virgin Galactic (for space travel).

As for Virgin Mobile, the company has cell phone operations also in the UK, Australia, and Canada.

In each country where it operates, Virgin Mobile is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO), meaning that it rents network bandwidth from established companies rather than builds it's own cellular towers across the country.

In fact, the co-operation goes much deeper than that, as Virgin Mobile USA is in fact a joint venture between Sprint PCS and Virgin Group.

For Virgin, this means low start-up fees, and very attractive cell phone plan prices for customers.

For the U.S., this business model has been working exceptionally well.

Since the launch on July 24, 2002, Virgin Mobile has attracted over 3 million net customers for their Pay As You Go wireless service.

Virgin Mobile Cell Phone Plans - Prepaid Plans

In each country where Virgin Mobile operates, it has become the name most associated with prepaid wireless plans, and that is also the case with U.S.

Getting over 3 million prepaid customers in such highly competitive market as United States is no small feat.

Some of the reasons behind Virgin Mobile's success include:

  • targeting the Pay As You Go service to the youth sector
  • offering lots of exciting additional mobile content, such as Virgin Mobile ringtones, wallpapers, and screen savers
  • there are no hidden fees on their service
  • excellent customer service (recent independent research among current customers gave Virgin Mobile a 92% satisfaction rate)

Virgin Mobile Cell Phone Plans Features

The prepaid service from Virgin Mobile has been made to be as easy as possible.

To get talking with a prepaid cell phone plan from Virgin Mobile, you first need to get a phone from the company, which you can do at virginmobileusa.com.

Then, you can also activate the phone online.

And thats it.

When you've consumed the minutes on your pre-paid plan, you need to "refuel" the cell phone for additional talk time.

With Virgin Mobile, you can do that also online. The service is called Top-Up — it's how you add money to your account and it's how you Pay As You Go.

There are two ways to use Top Up.

You can Top-Up in a flash online or alternative right from your phone.

For the funds, you can use a credit card or a store-bought Top-Up card.

Virgin Mobile Cell Phone Plans - Coverage and Stores

To further investigate whether you should go for a Virgin Mobile prepay plan, seeing their coverage map may help (due to the MVNO agreement with Sprint, Virgin Mobile customers have access to service anywhere on the Sprint Nationwide PCS Network).

Here's a link to available Virgin Mobile coverage maps (opens up a new window).

Also, why not visit a Virgin Mobile store to further discuss your needs?

Virgin Mobile has a convenient store locator tool (used with your zip code) at the bottom left of their home page located at www.virginmobileusa.com website.
