Verizon Broadband
Verizon broadband has the no.2 spot for DSL in the nation and a strong position in wireless broadband (Wi-Fi, broadband CDMA) services.
Just like SBC has partnered with Yahoo!, Verizon has made a pact with MSN for premium content.
The partnership ensures that Verizon customers get access to:
- MSN VirusGuard and MSN Firewall
- MSN Parental Controls
- MSN Messenger with MSN Photo Swap
- MSN Photo Plus with Picture It! Library 9
- and many more MSN premium services.
The basic package, apart from the MSN premium content, has also 9 e-mail accounts, personal Web space, and a lots of additional tools for easier Internet enjoyment.
Verizon Broadband DSL Packages
Like the case is with other providers, you have the option of choosing between two different types of plans for your DSL, depending whether you take a month-to-month plan or a yearly plan.
The plans for residential use are:
- One-Year Commitment Plan: $29.95
- Month-to-Month Plan: $34.95
The pricing also differs when it comes to the required equipment.
In the one-year commitment plan you normally get the modem/router for free, while for the month-to-month plan you have to pay extra for that kind of equipment.
Both of the plans have maximum connection speeds up to 1.5 Mpbs/384 Kbps, 24/7 live technical support, self-install kit, 9 e-mail accounts, and 10 MB of Web space.
For business use, the packages start at $39.95 (with one-year commitment plan).
Verizon Broadband Wireless Packages
As for Wi-Fi, that service is offered free of charge to Verizon online (DSL and dial-up) customers.
Verizon Wi-Fi is available at multiple locations in the New York City area. The majority of the locations, also known as Verizon HotSpots, are currently in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The Verizon Wi-Fi service is not available from other hotspots outside the Verizon HotSpot network. Generally, each Verizon Wi-Fi HotSpot covers a 600-foot diameter area around the access point, but the range can be limited by factors such as obstructions and network congestion.
To see the hot spot locations, take a look at theVerizon hot spot location map (opens up a new window).
