Toshiba DVD Recorders
In addition to Toshiba DVD recorders, the company also produces award-winning (Toshiba has won an Emmy for merits in DVD technology) DVD players, DVD/TV combos, and lately, DVD/VCR/TV tri-play combos.
Toshiba has always been an DVD technology innovator. In fact, the DVD-Video format is based on an original Toshiba proposal. Lately, Toshiba has been leading the next-generation of blue-ray DVD technology development (the current players use red lasers) with a standard called HD-DVD, co-developed with NEC of Japan. However, Toshiba’s efforts are leading to a new standards war in the next generation of DVD devices, in opposition to Sony and others. HD-DVD, however, has gained a slight edge by having the DVD Forum to officially back the format in 2004. Features in Toshiba DVD Recorders Toshiba's DVD recorders rely on a combination of hard disk drives, DVD-RAM, and DVD-R. As such, these players offer industry-leading flexibility in recording capabilities. For day-to-day recordings, you can easily use the hard drive. Then, if you like, you can store your favorite recordings from the hard drive to a more permanent format, into DVD-RAM or DVD-R format. DVD-RAM technology is not compatible with most current DVD players. Therefore, the Toshiba recorders with DVD-RAM also feature DVD-R recording mode, which is compatible with most current players. The popular DVD-RAM format allows you to pause live picture and replay, while the recording continues in the background. Also, these are high-capacity disks, with double-sided discs containing 9.4 GB total storage space.
