Toshiba D R2
Here's a review of Toshiba D R2, a DVD recorder that has been available since March 23, 2004, the most important value for money features, audio & video features, plus how it compares to other DVD recorders.
As is the case with Toshiba D KR2, the D R2 is a multi-format DVD recorder, meaning it can record in DVD-RAM and DVD-R/-RW formats. The DVD-RAM is the oldest and most incompatible DVD recording format with existing base of standalone DVD players and computer DVD players. However, DVD-RAM has all kinds of useful features, including time shifting feature, which allows you to watch the beginning of a program while the recorder records the end. To compensate for the lack of compatibility with DVD players, the D R2 has DVD-R/-RW format recording. The DVD-R can be played in most available computer and standalone DVD players. Toshiba D R2 - Features Of the other features, the D R2 has an easy NAVI menu, which allows you a quick and easy access to the key features of the DVD recorder, such as Timer Recording or DV Capture. What's also great about the NAVI menu is that it has a "live action window", providing you feedback on the current status of the recorder, whether it is recording a program, in the Time Slip mode, or playing back content with DVD-RAM. If you have a digital video camcorder, you can plug it in to an IEEE1394 'Firewire' jack, available on the front panel. There are also RCA L/R inputs on the front panel of the unit for easy camcorder dubbing. Toshiba D R2 - Competition For similar price range, you can consider such DVD recorders as: * Panasonic DMR-E55S* Lite-On LVW5005* Sharp DVSR3U Of the competition, the Panasonic DMR-E55S is a DVD-RAM and DVD-R recorder, has a VCR Plus+, plus allows for easy playlist recording with thumbnails. Lite-On LVW5005, meanwhile, a 4/5 star rated (PC World) DVD recorder, has progressive scan DVD playback and AllWrite feature (choose recording mode from DVD-R/-RW or DVD+R/+RW formats). Finally, the Sharp DVSR3U is a DVD-R/-RW recorder, featuring enhanced Disc Navigation System with thumbnail display, which includes a Title Menu and instant access to the recorded table of contents.
