T Mobile Wireless Broadband

T Mobile wireless broadband is based on infrastructure build upon GSM core and upgrades towards 3G.

Much of the data and wireless broadband expertise the company has, has been developed by the European parent of T Mobile, Deutsche Telekom.

In the U.S., the company has been relying on sub-3G broadband speeds, with technology called EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution), which is an intermediary broadband technology towards a true broadband experience with third generation networks (or 3G).

EDGE is one evolution faster network than GPRS, which is a 2.5 generation data technology, based on GSM (which is a second generation technology).

The American 3G data network for T Mobile, with true broadband speeds comparable to some slower DSL and cable broadband networks should be available in mid-2008 (the time of writing this is May 2008).

The third generation network will be enhanced with HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Access), which allows an even more comparable data transmission experience to the broadband you have at home.
