Singapore WiMax 2006

Singapore WiMax operators, according to Intel Corp, are planning the commercial launch of their networks during 2006 (first half of year).

WiMax (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access), offering Wi-Fi type of Internet access at a higher bandwidth and with a wider range (of up to 30km - 50km), will probably be rolled out during the year 2006 in Singapore, making the country one of the first to get operational, commercial WiMax networks.

One step ahead of Singapore, South Korea has been very much in the forefront of WiMax deployment in Asia.

If you're lucky enough to be able to get in on the WiMax action during next year, expect to pay well in excess of what you're paying for your Wi-Fi gear to upgrade to WiMax.

However, Intel expects WiMax gear to be at Wi-Fi levels in 2 to 3 years.
