SBC Broadband

SBC broadband services are offered in co-operation with Yahoo! from high-speed Internet access to video, wireless phone, and other services.

The two companies announced a co-operation alliance in 2001 and expanded that the following year to include selling high-speed DSL Internet services.

The benefits of this co-operation to SBC DSL subscribers are the Yahoo!'s security and parental controls, a personalized browser, and other Yahoo!'s features.

SBC is the nation's number one DSL provider (Verizon is no.2), and Yahoo! is arguably the no.1 Internet brand globally.

From this power combination are available several types of residential DSL packages.

Available SBC Broadband Packages

The following packages are available:

• SBC Yahoo! DSL Starter-S package
• Up to 384 Kbps downstream/128 Kbps upstream
• Monthly fee: $54.95 (one year contract), $54.95 (month-to-month contract)

  Starter-S Package Internet service gives you all the benefits and customization unique to SBC Yahoo! DSL with five static IPs.

• SBC Yahoo! DSL Express-S package
• 384Kbps-1.5Mbps downstream/128Kbps upstream
• Monthly fee: $64.95 (one year contract), $64.95 (month-to-month contract)

  Express Package gives you the same benefits and customization as the Starter Package but at faster speeds.

• SBC Yahoo! DSL Pro package
• 1.5Mbps-3.0Mbps downstream/384Kbps upstream
• Monthly fee: $74.99 (one year contract), $74.99 (month-to-month contract)

• SBC Yahoo! DSL Symmetric-S package
• 384-416 Kbps downstream/384-416 Kbps upstream
• Monthly fee: $$89.99(one year contract), $119.95 (month-to-month contract)

  Symmetric-S Package offers two-way, high-speed Internet service with five static IPs, and is designed for small- and medium-size businesses with big-business needs.

SBC Broadband Wireless Packages

For wireless needs, you may want subscribe to Cingular's wireles data services. Cingular is a joint venture between SBC and BellSouth.

The Wi-Fi service from SBC is branded FreedomLink. This service is available at public FreedomLink Hot Spots only.

FreedomLink wireless broadband hot spots are available at select airports around the country, at around 2,000 such locations currently.

There are several plans to access the service:

• Prepaid Connection (Provides a day of unlimited access at any FreedomLink Hot Spot)
• Membership (Provides unlimited access to any FreedomLink Hot Spot starting at $19.95 per month, with 12 mo. membership)
