Samsung has said that it aims to be among the top three digital A/V technology companies in the U.S. As part of this “Digit-all: everyone’s invited” strategy, they have constantly pushed the envelope on digital technologies. However, DVD-RAM technology is incompatible with most available DVD players, which is why the company also has DVD-R recording mode (widest reported backward compatibility available) in the devices (and lately DVD-RW as well). The DVD-RAM technology allows for a live picture pause and replay, while the recorder continues to record in the background.
