Prepaid Cell Phone Plans

Prepaid cell phone plans offer some special features that many find irresistible. The plans have no monthly fees, no credit checks or deposits.

It's truly a "pay as you go" solution.

Prepaid calls are usually paid in advance, so you'll be in charge how much you'll spend each month on calls. However, there are now variations that have fixed fees attached, making them more like post-pay cell phone plans.

With true prepay plans, there's no hassle with "anytime minutes", and no fear of spending too much on talk time. The prepaid minutes do expire, and the time to expiration date varies from carrier to carrier, so do check this detail before purchase.

Popularity of Prepaid Cell Phone Plans

Prepaid plans are very popular in many European countries, such as Italy, while here only about 1 out of every 10 cell phone users has prepaid.

The situation in Europe is different however, as Europeans don't get as good incentives to buy plans with monthly fees as people do in the U.S.

Prepaid plans usually include a phone to get you talking right away, and there could be an included phone card with some talk time.

In addition to the selection of prepaid plans below, U.S. Cellular offers prepaid service in select areas under the TrackerFlex and TrackerPack brands (the difference is that TrackerPack has a monthly package of minutes, while TrackerFlex lets you add minutes as you go).

Also, you may find T-Mobile To Go prepaid kits in select areas.

Prepaid Cell Phone Plans - TracFone

With TracFone, you can activate prepaid plans with monthly or yearly payments.

For this, you pay a monthly (or yearly) charge, and the additional montly (yearly) charges are billed to your credit card or checking account.

Prepaid Cell Phone Plans - AT&T Wireless

AT&T has three types of prepaid services: AT&T GoPhone, AT&T Free2Go, and AT&T Ogo.

Of these, the GoPhone service is targeted at those who use their phones on a regular basis. Target areas include daily use, business use, kids & teenagers, and internet access use.

The Free2Go phones are aimed at those who use their phones only occasionally. The areas of use include short-term use, occasional use, and travel.

Finally, the Ogo service offers prepaid IM, E-Mail, and text messaging in one package. Targeted areas include instant messaging enthusiasts, AOL,MSN, or Yahoo! e-mail users, and those that consider giving prepay as a gift.

Prepaid Cell Phone Plans - Verizon Wireless

Verizon Wireless offers prepay packages under Verizon Wireless Pay As You Go service label.

There are at least 2 different prepay packages available from the company to choose from, using LG and Kyocera phones.

The purchased minutes on the plans expire differently depending on how much you purchase minutes at one time.

The bigger the card purchase, the longer the time to expiration for the minutes. However, to carry the balance forward, you can buy and initialize another card before your expiration date.
