Pegasus Satellite TV

Pegasus satellite TV is a source for DirecTV programming to rural areas in 41 states nationwide. DirecTV Group Inc. purchased the primary assets of Pegasus Communications Corp.'s satellite-television unit for $875 million in cash in late 2004.

Pegasus is the nation’s largest provider of DirecTV (now part of the main company) in the rural areas that make up as much as 85% of the landmass of continental United States.

Pegasus uses an extensive retail network. What this means is that you can find the service from thousands of independent satellite, consumer electronics, and other retailers serving rural areas.

In addition, the company’s agreement with DSI Systems gives them access to up to 12,000 additional retailers.

Finding Pegasus Satellite TV

To get DirecTV through Pegasus, you either have to find one of the resellers or you can get the package directly from the company, now part of DirecTV (at directv.com).

Pegasus lists the following national consumer electronics retailers as carrying the equipment: Best Buy, Circuit City, The Good Guys and Sears Brand Central. Mass merchants include Sam's Clubs, Costco and Wal-Mart.

Pegasus DirecTV Satellite TV Features

Pegasus list the following features as standard on DirecTV systems sold through them:

  • On-screen customizable programming guide
  • One touch information guide on each program selection
  • Icon-based channel guides for quick reference
  • Built-in modem for one-button remote control pay per view purchases
  • Universal remote control

  • Dual LNB outputs for connecting more than one receiver
  • Locks and Limits (lock-out and limited viewing features)

These features can be found from the three manufacturers for DirecTV equipment available: Thomson Consumer Electronics (which markets under the RCA, GE and ProScan names), Sony Electronics and Hughes Network Systems.
