Of these three formats, the DVD-RAM is the least compatible with existing players and that has played in favor of both DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW formats. Of the two main formats, DVD-R/-RW is supported by industry group called DVD Forum, which includes companies such as Pioneer. DVD+R/+RW, meanwhile, is supported by DVD+RW Alliance, an industry group that includes HP, Philips and others. In the race between these two incompatible standards, there are no clear winners for dominant standard. That’s why some of the manufacturers have introduced dual format computer DVD Recorders that have the ability to record both in DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW. Available PC DVD Recorders Because of the industry group alliances, some of the companies primarily manufacture DVD-RW based PC DVD recorders, while others make DVD+RW or DVD-RAM burners.
