PC DVD Recorders
PC DVD recorders come in same three main formats as standalone DVD recorders: DVD-RAM, DVD-R/-RW, and DVD+R/+RW.
Of these three formats, the DVD-RAM is the least compatible with existing players and that has played in favor of both DVD+R/+RW and DVD-R/-RW formats. Of the two main formats, DVD-R/-RW is supported by industry group called DVD Forum, which includes companies such as Pioneer. DVD+R/+RW, meanwhile, is supported by DVD+RW Alliance, an industry group that includes HP, Philips and others. In the race between these two incompatible standards, there are no clear winners for dominant standard. That’s why some of the manufacturers have introduced dual format computer DVD Recorders that have the ability to record both in DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW.
