Panasonic SC HT1000 Review
Here's a Panasonic SC HT1000 review of this system available in stores since September 10, 2003.
This package is a DVD home theater system rather than just a DVD recorder. Included in the package are: * Dolby Digital, Dolby Pro Logic II, and DTS-decoding home theater receiver/recorder* 5 speakers and a subwoofer* Multibrand-for-video remote The DVD recorder in the unit can handle recording onto DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs. These two formats complement each other nicely. DVD-RAM has nice features such as Time Slip function, which allows you to start watching a DVD-RAM disc while recording is still in progress. The DVD-RAM format, however, is the least backwards compatible format of the available DVD standards. In comparison, the DVD-R works with most available DVD players and DVD drives in computers, so you'll probably record to DVD-R discs instead of DVD-RAM if you're going to share the DVD contents. Panasonic SC HT1000 Review - Features When choosing this package, in addition to the features of the DVD recorder, pay also attention to the speakers' features, for example. The speaker system can deliver 700 watts of power, for the best enjoyment of movies and soundtracks. Also, the surround speakers incorporate Panasonic's own OmniCast design, which diffuses the sound in order to produce a wider soundstage. Other features in the Panasonic SC HT1000 include: * Playback support for DVD-Audio, DVD-Video, DVD-RAM, DVD-R, CD, CD-R/RW, Video CD, and MP3 discs* Tuner with 12 FM/12 AM presets* Optical digital audio input* Video output for TV (composite, S-video, component)* Multibrand-for-video remote Panasonic SC HT1000 Review - Competition The competition for the Panasonic SC HT1000 DVD recorder feature include: * Toshiba D-R2* JVC DRM10S Of these competitive offers, the Toshiba D-R2 allows recording onto DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM discs, plus the recorder supports MP3 and WMA file playback. In comparison, the JVC DRM10S has support for DVD-R, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM recording, plus five recording modes: EP, FR, LP, SP, and XP.
