Panasonic DVD Recorders
Because the company relies on DVD-RAM format and large internal hard disks in some selected models, you can benefit from features such as the chasing playback feature and more than 700 (!) hours of programming (EP mode) to the hard disk (with the DMR-E500HS). Panasonic has been surprisingly strong in DVD recorders, capturing nearly half of the U.S. recordable DVD player market already back in 2002. The success of Panasonic DVD recorders has largely been contributed to ease of use, innovative features, the use of HDDs, and joint support for DVD-RAM and DVD-R media. In short, the Panasonic recorders are seen offering best value for money. Panasonic was also the first to introduce a DVD recorder into the U.S. as well as the first to introduce a hard drive DVD recorder in the U.S. market. Features in Panasonic DVD Recorders DVD-RAM technology, which Panasonic uses, allows worry-free recordings, simultaneous recording and playback, time shifting features (chasing playback, TimeSlip feature), and re-writability up to 100,000 times on a single disc. Other major manufacturers who support DVD-RAM are Toshiba, Samsung, and Hitachi (almost all manufacturers support DVD-R, at least in playback mode). However, DVD-RAM is the most incompatible of all the major standards for DVD recordings, which is why Panasonic has introduced DVD-R recording capability in addition to the recorders (reputably the most backwards compatible format of them all).
