Panasonic DMR HS2 DVD Recorder The Panasonic DMR HS2 DVD recorder is of the earlier generation of Panasonic recorders. The newer generation includes such recorders as the E80 and E100 models.
This recorder comes with a 40GB hard drive and it also can record to a DVD-RAM and DVD-R disc. These formats present greater flexibility in recording, as many use the hard drive for temporary storage and DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs for more permanent recordings (DVD-R discs are a bit cheaper choice. They're write once discs though). Because Panasonic is a supporter/developer of the DVD-RAM technology, the machine has that format. But because DVD-RAM has one of the poorest backward compatibilities with existing player base, the DVD-R capability has been added to allow for better sharing of recordings (as DVD-R has the best compatibility with existing players). Panasonic DMR HS2 DVD Recorder Features Although some of the features in this recorder resemble TiVo service, this is not a Tivo machine. It has VCR Plus built-in and that feature is free. The hard drive disk allows for great flexibility in editing as well as in recording. For editing, many use the hard drive to store the data (from camcorder, for example) and edit it, then store the final product into a DVD-RAM or DVD-R disc. The recorder has PC card slot, which allows you to to expand using the recorder to store JPEG files on flash card and viewing them with the device, for example. There's also a FireWire port, to be used with, for example, transferring your home movies from a camcorder. As for pricing, the newer generation models have caused downward pressure on the price of the DMR HS2 DVD recorder. Thus, you can find a great bargain on this model.
