Panasonic DMR E55 Review

Here's a Panasonic DMR E55 review of this DVD recorder that has been available in stores since February 4, 2004. The review compares features, value for money, and points out other, similar DVD recorders.

Similarly to most other Panasonic DVD recorders, the DMR E55 records into DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs.

Supported playback formats include DVD-Video, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD-R/RW, and MP3 CD.

Panasonic is known for its development of the Hybrid variable bit rate recording that extends the recording time to standard DVD-RAM discs.

The fruits of that development work are obvious with the DMR E55, as you can record up to up to 16 hours of programming on a double-sided disc, or 8 hours per side (on standard 4.7 GB discs, in EP recording mode).

Panasonic DMR E55 Review - Features

In addition to having recording available to the DVD-RAM and DVD-R discs, this is also a great DVD player, with such features as progressive scan and support for playback of prerecorded MP3 files.

Other features in the DMR E55 include:

* Hybrid VBR vdeo recording technology with Dolby 2-channel audio recording* 2-Channel DVD audio play* Playback support for DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, CD, CDR and CDRW discs* 3D Y/C Separation/3D Noise Reduction/Block Noise Reduction/Mosquito Noise Reduction

Panasonic DMR E55 Review - Competition

Other, competitive DVD recorders include:

* CyberHome CH-DVR 1500* JVC DR-MV1SL

Of these competitive DVD recorders, the CyberHome CH-DVR 1500 is an entry-level DVD recorder, with recording into DVD+R and DVD+RW discs, progressive-scan playback, and composite- and S-video inputs for simple hookup with camcorders.

Meanwhile, the JVC DR-MV1SL is a DVD recorder and VCR combo, offering recording to DVD-RAM, and DVD-R & DVD-RW, as well as into VHS tapes.
