New Wi-Fi and Voice Over Wi-Fi Services to be Launched in Europe

All the European voice over Wi-Fi TelCo players out there seem to be moving fast to secure market share.

For the first, The Cloud, a London, UK, company that transports and connects Wi-Fi traffic from different operators, announced today that it is moving into Germany, which is Europe’s largest domestic telecommunications market.

In related news, Dublin, Ireland, based Cicero said Ireland’s Talktelecom (a traditional TelCo) has agreed to use Cicero's technology for the red hot voice-over-Wi-Fi service market for corporate customers.

The Cloud has been very effective in expanding in its domestic, UK, market, where it has guaranteed a spot on 30,000 separate locations for current or future placement of Wi-Fi base stations to be located.

Cloud has also announced that they will be rolling out a nationwide Wi-Fi network in Sweden, one of the hotspot markets for Wi-Fi.

The German move is a natural move for such an rapidly expanding company, as Germany is a key market for any Wi-Fi provider that wants to become a major European force.

The Cloud expects traffic to boom in the upcoming years. In the UK alone, there are in excess of 6.6 million Wi-Fi-enabled laptops and 400,000 PDAs, and many users are just discovering the joys of Wi-Fi.

More users are expected to discover Wi-Fi in 2005 and 2006, as voice over Wi-Fi becomes more of an everyday phenomenon, as the moves by such companies as Cicero suggest.
