National Cell Phone Plans

National cell phone plans refer to cellular plans for calling area that is national, from coast-to-coast.

The companies that typically offer national plans also have national coverage. Currently, these companies include Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint, Nextel, and Cellular One.

In addition to these companies, the local players have their own national plans, but on many of those plans, your calls may be connected to another service providers network, which may mean that you have to pay roaming fees and additional fees.

On most of the national plans, there is no additional prices for calling long distance, out of the regional or local calling network on the cell phone company's own network. However, calling to another network may include hefty additional fees.

National Cell Phone Plans - Availability

When choosing a national plan, it's best to choose from one of the carriers that have national coverage: Cingular Wireless, Verizon Wireless, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Nextel.

Of these, Cingular's national plans are sold under Cingular Nation brand, and include no domestic long distance charges, plus there's rollover feature, where one month's extra unused minutes get rolled over to the next.

Verizon Wireless has two distinct plan types, one called America's Choice and the other America's Choice with Push to Talk, where you can use the Push to Talk feature on a national calling basis.

T-Mobile sells the national plans under Get More packages, starting as low as under $30 per month. Features include no nationwide long-distance or roaming charges, and nationwide Whenever Minutes.

Sprint and Nextel (the merged entity) has several national plans, including National Free Incoming Plan, Power Pack Plan, and Sprint Basic Plan.
