Laptop DVD Burners

There are many types of laptop DVD burners out there, as both internal and external burners. Which one is better for you may depend on the type of laptop you have (or are going to buy).

If your laptop is a "desktop replacement model", meaning it has desktop-comparable processing power, above average laptop weight, and bigger display (among other things), chances are that getting an internal burner is the best way to go.

However, for mobile professionals with the need for best mobility (light weight design, wireless networking options etc.), the external DVD burner may be a better option as you can leave it out of the laptop as you go to meet clients and don't want to have any unneeded weight to carry around.

Laptop DVD Burners - Manufacturers

Many of the same companies that are strong in laptops, such as Toshiba and HP, also have a strong foothold in the laptop CD and DVD burner market. There are other companies as well, including:

* TDK* IBM* Sony* Iomega* LG* and others.

As is the case with standalone DVD recorders, also the laptop burners rely on different DVD recording formats. There are burners available for all of the formats (DVD-RAM, DVD-R/-RW, and DVD+R/+RW) and some of these burners even support all of them in one device (from LG and Iomega for example).

To read more about laptop DVD burners technological background, good places to visit include

the manufacturers' web sites and the following DVD format support group web sites:

* dvdforum.org (for DVD-R/-RW)* ramprg.com (for DVD-RAM)* dvdrw.com (for DVD+R/+RW)
