Laptop Docking Stations

Laptop docking stations can give you a full range of additional functionality, to make it more like a desktop replacement laptop in home use.

A docking station as well as port replicators are something you put your laptop into and receive additional functionality.

Most people who buy these docking stations need them to make their scaled down, ultralight portable laptop more like a desktop computer, with plenty of ports and functionality.

However, many full sized laptops, often called desktop replacement laptops, come with a lot of ports to meet most basic needs.

Even with ultraportable laptops, there are typically several FireWire and USB ports to allow for business class connectivity without sacrificing the lightness of the notebook computer.

In business use, a docking station can be useful combined with a desktop computer, as you can connect your desk keyboard, mouse, monitor, power and speakers to one docking station and then just insert the laptop in and out as needed. The alternative is to hook up the 5 connections separately to get it connected.

Due to these things, docking stations are most often used in businesses and organizations, not so much in individual use.
