Laptop Computers
Some of the main uses for laptop computers are as a replacement for the desktop computer and as a mobile office.
Ever since the prices for laptops have dropped dramatically and their performance is close to desktop computers for the money, many are making the switch to mobile computing, replacing the desktop computer with a laptop. Even though mobility of a laptop is partly dependent on longevity of the battery life of the machine, this issue is not so relevant for many who replace their desktops and only occasionally unplug the main power cable from the laptop. Naturally, mobile professionals, such as salesmen, have long benefited from mobile computing. Many of the laptops aimed at mobile professionals are ultra-portable, with specific mobile chips, reduced weight (through smaller displays and less additional devices, such as DVD drives), and wireless networking connectivity options. However, there are some companies, such as Sager, that manufacture only laptops. This allows them to better serve the needs of their specific customer base and specific laptop market segments.
