JVC DVD-RW Dual Layered Single-Sided Disc Announced

The JVC single-sided, dual-layer DVD-RW disc is world's first of its kind, and increases maximum DVD-RW storage capacity from 4.7GB to 8.5GB.

The dual-layered DVD-RW disc comes as a response to the rival DVD+RW technology, which has similar discs already.

In order to get the dual layer technology standardized, JVC will submit the details of the technology to the DVD Forum, which then decides whether to support the standard or not.

The dual layer technology incorporates several JVC DVD recorder technologies, such as N-Strategy recording method, developed in-house by JVC/Matsushita for high speed DVD-RW discs.
