Internet Dating Crimes

Internet dating crimes are a worldwide phenomena, and it is believed that over 75 percent of victims are female. Governments around the world have set different types of taskforces to fight the harmful content within and illegal uses of Internet.

For example, European Union has a Commission on Illegal and Harmful Content on the Internet, while the U.S. has Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

There are many local divisions of the task force, and some variations of the agency. For example, in Maine there is a Maine Computer Crimes Task Force.

Internet Dating Crimes - Types

Among the types of Internet dating crimes is cyber stalking, when a person is followed and pursued online.

Cyber stalking usually occurs with women, who are stalked by men. Children and teens are normally excluded out of typical online dating web sites, but they can get harassed on online chat rooms.

Women, teenagers and children have to be cautious of any type of dating services and chat rooms as they can be especially risky.

Internet Dating Crimes - Fraud

Internet dating fraud is another common form of crime in Internet dating.

Fraud can be coming from the web site that does the introductory services, or it could be one of the members in such a service making false claims or promises, generally in hopes of getting money.

There have been frauds related to so called "marrying agencies" with women from distant countries, such as Russia.

To prevent these types of frauds, there are now "black lists" of agencies and their listed members that have mislead those sincerely trying to find love online.
