Increase Broadband Speed

To increase broadband speed , you can tweak your computer and local network settings, as well as use a broadband accelerator software.

Originally, many of the broadband speed tweaks focused on increasing the performance of internet browsing, the more modern speed tweaks are commonly made to specific applications such as P2P file sharing systems and online gaming apps.

If you start tweaking your computer and network connection for faster speeds, you can realistically expect a gain in the magnitude of 10-20%, but may be much more if you use some of the commercially existing broadband accelerator software, such as ONspeed.

You should also consider that tweaks done to your system may create instability on some networks.

The accelerator software often does compression through a proxy server, so that the data that flows between your computer and internet is of smaller size, and thus moves quicker.

The tweaks done to your system include tweaks done to

  • TCP receive window size
  • Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU)
  • Maximum Segment Size (MSS)
  • Time-To-Live (TTL)

Other common broadband tweaks have to do with changing your internet browser settings.

Lastly, you may also find tweaks that modify settings on routers and modems.

You may want to do these tweaks by hand, or you can download tweak software that will do the changes to your system automatically. Although the automatic changing may sound good, it is often recommended to do and test the changes by hand, due to the mentioned potential problems to the network and/or system stability and functioning.
