Home DVD Recorders

Home DVD recorders are the top selling category in DVD recorders. Other categories include professional level recorders/burners, as well as DVD duplicators.

Although the line between home and professional DVD recorders has been blurring as prices for recorders have come down, most manufacturers still label distinctively their professional level devices as "for professional use".

The differences between home and professional use are mainly on the possibilities for editing the disc. Professional level recorders offer much better editing options, but these options require deeper knowledge of the editing process than editing with home recorders.

Home DVD Recorders - Manufacturers

If you're familiar with the major manufacturers of DVD players, you pretty much have summed the manufacturers for DVD recorders. Current manufacturer base includes:

* Sony* Philips* Toshiba* Panasonic* Apex* Pioneer* and many others.

Starting to choose from the tens of available offers can be a daunting task. To speed up the process, you can divide the offers by recording technology (DVD-RAM, DVD-RW, or DVD+RW), by whether the recorder has a hard drive unit or not, by additional services (TiVo etc.), and so on.

For prices, it is advisable to browse some of the available comparison shopping engines to get a good feel of the general price ranges available.
