High Speed Internet Service Verizon High speed internet service Verizon EVDO network, which is a third generation wireless technology.
The first generation networks were the analog cell phone networks, second generation included GSM and CDMA technology, and the third generation includes, beyond EVDO, technologies such as UMTS, which is a direct successor to the GSM. EVDO stands for Evolution Data Only/Evolution Data Optimized (abbreviated as EVDO, EV-DO, EvDO, 1xEV-DO or 1xEvDO), and it is based on the 1xRTT standard, which is available in almost all cell phone coverage areas and provides speeds of about 2-3 times that of dial-up, which translates to about 60kbps-100kbps. However, the network that Verizon uses is upgraded to Revision A which is the newest development in EVDO providing upload speeds of about 300-400kbps, which qualifies as broadband in most analyses. There are other technologies used for third generation cell phone data, some of which provide higher download/upload speeds. The other cell phone company that uses EVDO in the United States is Sprint.
