High Speed Internet Rural

High speed internet rural options may be down to just satellite broadband, in most isolated areas.

It has been said that one of the great challenges in broadband internet is to get it to the potential customers in areas of low population density, such as to farmers and ranchers.

Many of these areas do have access to dial up internet via phone lines, but the change to broadband internet connection may not be so easily available.

One of the problems with rural areas is that each rural customer may require expensive installation to get connected. This may include installation of broadband cables and rewiring phone lines.

The problem has been compared to how electricity came first to bigger cities, and some remote rural areas were not electrified until the 1940s, half a century lag to the earliest cities.

Most rural areas have a phone company, and often your availability of ground based broadband internet depends on how willing that company is to upgrade their rural technology.

One of the more popular ways to get even the most rural areas connected with broadband is satellite internet, which is available in all 50 states, and you only need a clear view of the Southern sky.

Another wireless technology, Wimax, has also been making headways into the rural communities. Wimax can provide broadband connection up to 50 km range from the base station, and there are possibilities to cover many rural areas with population with just a few base stations, similarly to what cell phone towers already do.

Of the ground based upcoming technologies, broadband over powerlines, a technology that uses existing powerlines to deliver high speed internet, is one of the ways in which any location that is connected to the electricity grid can get broadband internet, including any rural location.
