Government Computer Auctions Government computer auctions offer a way to tap into one of the best sources for used computer equipment.
Government is one of the single biggest buyers of computers, both in local and national levels. Many times, the government has predetermined plans to update their computer equipment periodically. The used equipment is sold or scrapped. One channel through which used government computer equipment is sold is through auctions. In 2002, the General Services Administration (GSA) added a shopping and auctions section to its FirstGov portal. The firstgov.gov feature also was part of the Federal Asset Sales e-government initiative that is managed by the GSA. In addition to Federal level auctions, there are state and local-level government auctions also available. To cater to the government auction market, there are now also specialized third-party auction houses available online that you can use to find these auctions. One such site is govliquidation.com. Government Computer Auctions - FirstGov Of the available auction places, firstgov.gov auctions offer a way to bid for new, seized and surplus merchandise from the government. In addition to the auctions for office equipment (including computers) by the General Services Agency, the firstgov.com auctions include other agencies' auctions. These agencies include the U.S. Customs Service, Tennessee Valley Authority, and Federal Communications Commission. Government Computer Auctions - GovLiquidation The GovLiquidation.com web site claims to be the exclusive partner of the U.S. Department of Defense for the sale of military surplus equipment. This surplus equipment includes computers and computer parts. The last time I checked, there were 1109 lots on auction for computers & related equipment. To narrow your search, you can search for computer auctions by keyword, by state, or by manufacturer.
