Gateway Computer History
The Gateway computer history has its origins in 1985, when the company started operations under the name Gateway 2000 in Iowa (in a farmhouse).
By 1993, the founder of the company, Ted Waitt, has shaped the company into a Fortune 500 company, and went public that same year. The company was initially traded in NASDAQ, but changed exchanges to become a NYSE listed company in 1997. Also, in 1998, the company shifted its corporate headquarters from North Sioux City, South Dakota, to the San Diego area. Recently, the company has acquired eMachines, an emerging powerhouse (one of the fastest growing) PC manufacturer. Gateway Computer History - Strategy and Products Throughout its history, Gateway has changed from a PC maker to a full-service technology provider with a wide range of its own products and services, such as thin TVs, digital cameras, camcorders and systems and networking products. But the company's basic principles remain the same. Gateway's strategy has always been one of plain talk and fair dealing. It is based on offering products directly to customers, providing them with good value for money and great service and support. Gateway has pioneered several industry trends and practices. Gateway was the first PC company to offer systems with color monitors as standard, the first to offer a standard three-year warranty and the first to commercially explore convergence of the PC and television.
