Free MP3 Ringtones
Free MP3 ringtones are available for download from online services to your desktop, or you can make free ringers from every MP3 track that you have with available audio editors.
In principle, you could use any MP3 track on your desktop also in your cell phone as a MP3 ringtone. However, cell phones typically require smaller file sizes for MP3 ringtones, and a length of about 30 seconds. The 30 second barrier limits the file size to around 200 KB, and can be less if you modify the bit rate of the file. You don't really need longer than 30 second MP3 ringers to your cell phone, as after about 30-40 second unanswered ringing the calls are transferred to voicemail. Conveniently, 30 seconds is a typical CD track preview size for MP3 files used in online music stores. For one, Walmart Music Store has these MP3s in the thousands, all available for downloading to your desktop (don't go to the music downloads section for the previews, however). The file size for the Walmart MP3 preview files is 235 KB, but you can make the file smaller by adjusting the bit rate downwards with audio editing tools such as Audacity. To upload the ringers to your cell phone, you can use your preferred download method, including cables, Bluetooth, or an infrared connection. You also need phone manager software. Also, uploading the ringers to a wireless web page and downloading from there to the cell phone is a popular method. For some cell phones, you can email the ringers as an attachment or send the ringer in a MMS message. Free MP3 Ringtones - Free Downloads There are also websites that offer free downloads of MP3 ringers. Most of them offer downloads to your desktop rather than over-the-air. This is because sending the ringers over the air would be expensive for the free ringtone providers. Online web sites with desktop-downloadable MP3 ringers include: mobileplayground.co.uk, nextpimp.com, and nextelrepairs.com. For nearly free ringtone service, check out ToneThis.com. They require a one-time fee, but for that, you get unlimited downloads, making the per-download price nearer zero the more you use the service.
