Free MP3 Ringtones for Motorola - Free Downloads to Your Desktop

If you don't like paying $3 or more for a MP3 ringing tone, you can easily download them for free.

The downside with the free services is that in most cases, you have to first download the free ringer to your desktop, then to your cell phone.

One of the best of the free websites to find suitable sized MP3 audio files is the Walmart Music Store that has thousands of MP3 files available. These audio files are actually MP3 previews of CD tracks, but they also make great MP3 ringers (don't go to the music downloads section for the previews, however).

To download these free MP3 ringtones for Motorola, simply use right click and Save Target As to copy the ringer to your desktop.

You may need to edit these free MP3 ring tones to bring down the file size from the typical 235 KB.

Then, you have to transfer the file to your Motorola phone with either Bluetooth connection, with cables, or infrared, and phone manager software, such as Motorola Mobile Phone Tools from BVRP Software.

Other resources for free ringers in MP3 (and WAV) format include nextpimp.com, which is meant primarily for Nextel customers, and mobileplayground.co.uk, which allows you to save the MP3 ringers to your desktop.

Free MP3 Ringtones for Motorola - Making Your Own MP3 Ringers

You can also easily make your own Motorola HiFi ring tones. Making either MP3 or WAV ringers is a lot easier than it used to be with monotonic, “beeb" ringers, where you had to type in the notes, pauses, and octaves by hand.

To make the MP3 ringers by yourself, you may use audio editors to cut suitable sized clips, of about 30 seconds max, from your favorite MP3 songs as ringing tones.

The length depends not only on what your cell phone can handle memory-wise, but also on the fact that the call will usually be transferred to voicemail after 30-40 seconds of unanswered ringing.

These MP3 ringers may need to be edited, in order for you to be able to use them. Typically, you can cut the size of the file by changing the bit rate to e.g. 64Kbps.

There are several tools to make the conversions and editing. For one, there is Audacity, a free download. Another good tool is called WavePad, a free download from www.nch.com.au/wavepad/.

You can also use a (free) tool that automates much of the task in formatting the free Motorola ringtones. The tool is called Ringtone Ripper, and makes 20 second MP3 ringing tones out of your personal collection of songs in CDs and MP3 files.

Free MP3 Ringtones for Motorola - Free Test Ringers

Not all Motorola phones support MP3 ringing tones, and there's a lot of confusion out there as to what phones support which format.

In order to minimize downloads of incompatible ringers to your phone, many ringtone companies offer free test downloads (typically 1 to 2 free ringers) from their services.

These free test ringers are available, for example, from midiringtones.com and ringtonejukebox.com.
