Indiana State University to Offer Free Laptops for Good Grades
Indiana State University had decided to offer free laptops as incentives for good high school grades to Fall 2006 freshmen. According to Indiana State University (ISU) representatives, the business-grade laptop computers would be given to incoming freshmen that have a 3.0 high school grade point average or higher.
The alternative way to recognize good grades would have been tuition discounts, but the school thought that the idea of a free laptop would be a more motivating factor for the incoming freshmen. Also, ISU sees technology transforming the way their faculty teaches and the way students experience the school. This way, the development of the laptop award was a natural extension of this priority. The announcement comes on the heels of last month announcement, when Indiana State University officials announced plans to become the first public university in the state to require all undergraduate students to have laptop computers beginning with incoming freshmen in fall 2007. To be eligible to receive the laptop award, incoming freshmen must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours at ISU. Also, out-of-state students are also eligible for the award.
