DVD Player Recorders
DVD player recorders, or simply DVD recorders, are available with support for DVD-RAM, DVD-R/-RW, and DVD+R/+RW formats. The recorders are also excellent devices for DVD playback, with most having such features as progressive scan.
When choosing a recorder, consideration should be given both for the playback as well as recording abilities of the device. For recording abilities, there are also recorders with built-in hard drives. These hard drives provide many similar features that you may already know of from TiVo devices. Many use the hard drive for temporary recordings, then transfer the ones to keep onto a recordable DVD disc. DVD Player Recorders - Resources Much of the discussion on DVD recorders is about the different formats available. These are DVD-RAM, DVD-R/-RW, and DVD+R/+RW. It used to be that you had to choose one of the formats when you chose a recorder. However, there are now recorders that support more than one format. For example, almost all of the DVD-RAM recorders also support the DVD-R format. In addition, there are now devices that support both the DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW format (from Sony, for example), and for computers, there are burners that support all of the formats in one device (for example, from Iomega). To read more about the formats and their devices, it's advisable to read material from the organisations behind these initiatives. The organisations include: * dvdforum.org* dvdrw.com Other good sources are the manufacturer's web sites, such as that of Panasonic, Philips, and others. For price information, you should start by looking at some of the comparison price engines on the web. Then, compare those prices to the pricings at the manufacturer's own stores to get the best rebates and offers. You may also think about getting one of the refurbished DVD player recorders.
