DVD Player Ratings

DVD player ratings, unlike most DVD player reviews, compare players by giving them points on a scale. Unlike plain text reviews, this makes it easier to compare one player unit to another.

Common places to find such player ratings include comparison shopping engines, DVD player resellers, and opinion sites. However, finding ratings based reviews from these sites instead of plain text reviews is somewhat rare.

The sites that DO have ratings based reviews include circuitcity.com, bizrate.com, and epinions.com.

DVD Player Ratings - Sites

Of the exemplary sites, CircuitCity has DVD player ratings based on a points scale. The points scale ranges from 0 to 5 points (5 being the best mark). Site visitors can leave a points based rating and optionally add a text based review as well. The point ratings are averages and the text reviews are weighted according to how useful visitors find the reviews. For DVD players, the qualities judged at CircuitCity are:

* Image quality * Ease of use * Sound quality * Cost - benefit

Bizrate, on the other hand, is a shopping comparison engine that allows visitors to add their opinion on the products. The ratings are two-tiered: first, the reviewer can either recommend the product or not (with background to that decision in the text-based review), plus give an overall rate on the product on a scale from 0 to 5 stars (5 being the best mark).

Finally, Epinions is an opinion site owned by the same people that operate the comparison shopping engine Shopping.com. The products are given rates for four DVD player qualities:

* Sound * Ease of use * Picture quality * Durability

The marks range from 0 to 5 (5 being the best), and these are averaged to give the DVD player an overall rating on the same scale. The ratings are enhanced by text-based reviews of the products, with quick reviews including a short pros and cons section.
