DMRe80HS
The DMRe80HS from Panasonic has built-in hard drive and supports DVD-RAM and DVD-R recording formats.
This recorder has been a favorite of those purchasing their first VCR replacement DVD recorder. It has easy setup and performs much (but not completely) like a TiVo unit, of which many have experience or prior knowledge of. Panasonic has been a long-time supporter of DVD-RAM. However, this format is seen as the least compatible of the existing standards with existing DVD player base. Therefore, to improve usability, they've included DVD-R, write-once format recording, which is the most supported format out there. Of these capabilities, many use the hard drive to record for temporary storage, then record from the hard drive to DVD-RAM programs that need long-term storage and to the DVD-R discs those programs that are going to be shared with friends and family. Panasonic DMRe80HS Features Although the machine is full of great features, the manual aiding to use them all is not seen by many to be up to the task. Also, the editing features are pretty basic, but you'll find that to be true of most DVD recorders out there. Some of the features in this device include: * Built-in 80 GB hard drive (stores up to 106 hrs of recording in EP mode)* Chasing playback (watch the start of the program while recorder records the end)* Progressive scanning playback As alternatives to this model, Panasonic also has recorders with 40 GB and 120 GB hard drives, although there are also other differences in features.
