DirecTV

DirecTV is the Eastern USA's no. 1 in customer satisfaction for satellite TV/cable categories for 2006, according to J.D. Power & Associates.

The unit is part of Hughes Electronics Corporation, a NYSE-listed company. Currently, DirecTV has some 16 million subscribers for their services.

In fact, the company has become the television entertainment service of choice in more than one of every nine TV households in the United States. Globally, it is positioned as the second largest provider of multi-channel television.

System Setup of the DirecTV Service

First of all, the parts of the DirecTV system comprise of a 18" Satellite Dish. This dish consists of a mounting foot, support arm and the actual dish. Bolts and self-locking nuts are included to assemble these parts.

Secondly, there’s the LNB - Low Noise Block. This part fits on the end of the support arm. The LNB collects the incoming signals reflected off of the dish and sends them through coaxial cable to the receiver.

The receiver is the central piece of the system. The box receives the signal from the LNB and converts the data into pictures and sound.

Then, there’s the access card. The receiver will not receive programming without a valid access card.

The access card descrambles the programming and authorizes the customer's programming selection.

There’s also a remote control.

The remote control is a universal remote, meaning it can be programmed to operate the TV, VCR, a surround sound system as well as the system.

Finally, there’s the owners manual/instruction manual. Every satellite system comes with an owner’s manual and an installer guide.
