Dell Batteries
There are many kinds of Dell batteries available for your laptop. However, the battery types you can actually use depends on which Dell laptop you have.
The most popular types of batteries for Dell laptops include basic Lithium-Ion batteries, Smart Lithium-Ion batteries, and secondary modular bay batteries. Not all models support all of these battery types. The basic Lithium-Ion batteries are longer lived than conventional batteries based on NiMH technology and do not require replacement nearly as often. These Dell batteries are also easier in use, as the don't suffer from "battery memory effect", which results in a shorter battery life with wrong recharging habits. The Lithium-Ion batteries can be charged whenever without the of reducing the charge capacity, as is the case with NiMH batteries. Dell Batteries - Smart Batteries The smart batteries communicate with the laptop, monitoring battery performance, output voltage, and temperature. This feature is enabled with the hardware in the smart battery. Among other things, the smart battery will allow for you to better reading on how much charge is left in the battery before recharging is required. Naturally, you may have to pay some extra for these advanced features in the battery, but the prices for smart batteries have come down significantly with greater supply. Dell Batteries - Secondary Modular Bay Battery If you use your laptop for long times without any power plugs in sight, longer battery lives are important. In addition to using the laptop in a more power conscious manner, you can extend the battery life with a secondary battery unit. The secondary modular bay battery allows you to extend you laptop's battery life beyond what can be achieved with a single battery. The prices for modular bay batteries are on the expensive side, but clearly aimed for professional users on the move that can afford to pay premium for extra battery life.
