Computer Internet Security Test

There are several computer Internet security test web sites that can be used to gauge your computer's firewall (you have one, don't you?) shields and other security features.

Some of the best resources for security checks online are the different types of computer security companies that exist.

These companies include the different software developers as well as security consultants. These companies and consultants include:

grc.com (Gibson Research Company)
symantec.com (Symantec)
sygate.com (Sygate)
mcafee.com (McAfee)

Of these, the Gibson Research Company web site is perhaps the most popular firewall testing web site that is available online.

The grc.com internet security test is called Shields Up! and it tests your computers firewall for leaks and reports results.

While on the grc.com web site, you should read the available excellent articles on computer security and reviews of the available firewall products.

Computer Internet Security Test - Software Developers

Besides the grc.com web site, most of the other internet security tests online are from big computer security companies such as Sygate and Symantec.

As for Sygate, the computer internet security test is located at scan.sygate.com. There are several types of scans from the site, including:

Quick Scan (quick scan of your computer to detect open, closed, and blocked ports)
Stealth Scan (same as our quickscan, but uses various stealthing techniques to penetrate firewalls)
Trojan Scan (scans for active trojan horse programs throughout all 65535 TCP ports)
TCP Scan (scans the main 1024 TCP ports used for open services)
UDP Scan (uses various methods to determine if your firewall blocks UDP packets)
ICMP (uses various methods to determine if your firewall blocks ICMP packets (PING))

Finally, Symantec has online tests located at symantec.com/securitycheck/. The test for internet test is titled "Security Test".

This test includes several sub-tests, including:

Hacker Exposure Check (Checks whether your computer allows unknown or unauthorized Internet communications)
Windows Vulnerability Check (checks whether basic information about your computer, including your PC's network identity, is exposed to hackers)
Trojan Horse Check (checks whether your computer is safe from Trojan horses)
Antivirus Product Check (checks whether you're protected by a commonly-used virus protection product)
Virus Protection Update Check (checks whether you're safe from the latest viruses. Applicable if you have a virus protection product.)
