Computer DVD Recorders

Computer DVD recorders, used with laptops or desktop computers, are available from many manufacturers. Normally, the recorders in computers are called "burners", to differentiate them from standalone DVD recorders.

Computer DVD burners are made by companies including:

* Apricorn* HP* Iomega* Pacific Digital* TDK

As is the case with standalone DVD recorders, the burners record in different formats and some in more than one format.

In fact, the multiformat recording capability is one of the hottest trends right now. Perhaps the ultimate in multiformat recording is having all three major formats, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, and DVD-RAM in one device.

Exactly that has been achieved with the Iomega Super DVD Writer All-Format, which is an internal burner.

DVD Burner Recorders - Resources

If you want to learn more about the burner recording technology or the differences between internal and external drives, good resources for these purposes include the manufacturers' web sites.

For example, Sony, Toshiba, Pioneer, and Panasonic have excellent information on the different technologies used in DVD recording.

Other useful resources include the organisations behind the available formats, such as DVD+R/+RW. Their web sites include:

* DVD+RW Alliance, located at dvdrw.com* DVD Forum, located at dvdforum.org
