Compaq Computers
Compaq computers, ever since the 2002 merger, are now produced by Hewlett Packard. The combined company does business in 178 countries and has over 140,000 employees.
The combined entity is perhaps the strongest brand in computers, being a global no. 2 in global PC shipments, occasional (on a quarter to quarter basis) no.1 in laptops, and no. 1 in pocket PCs. The original Compaq was founded in 1982. Over time, the company became a global PC powerhouse, achieving the global no.1 status in shipped PCs for the first time in January 1995. The modern Compaq company itself, before the merger with HP, was a product of mergers, having bought Tandem computer and Microcom in 1997, as well as Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in 1998. Compaq has been especially strong in making small and sleek computers, such as the handheld Compaq iPaq (now HP iPaq). Available Compaq Computers Even after the merger, the Compaq brand has been preserved. Computers, both desktops and laptops, are manufactured under the brand name “Presario”.
