Cingular MP3 Ringtones

Cingular MP3 ringtones are sold as Super Tones from the official Cingular ringer service. You can also download them for free elsewhere or make hit ringers of your own. For Cingular cell phones, the phones that support Super Tones include:

LG C1300
LG L1400
Motorola RAZR V3
Motorola V180
Motorola V220
Motorola V400
Motorola V551
Nokia 6230
Nokia 6620
Nokia N-Gage QD
Samsung X427M

In order to download Cingular MP3 ringers, you can do so from the service website (at cingularextras.com). Or, from your phone, log in to MEdia Net and select Tones & Graphics.

Download will be sent to your phone. Charges will appear on your monthly bill.

However, to download online, you'll need a Cingular DirectBill account, so that the Cingular MP3 ringtones will be charged on your monthly Cingular bill (If you're not already signed up with DirectBill, you can do so as part of the checkout process).

The pricing of the MP3 Super Tones ranges from a one time fee of $1.99 (for sound effects) to $2.49 (for music and voice tones).

Making Your Own Cingular MP3 Ringtones

Making your own MP3 ringers is quite easy nowadays, with available ringtone and audio editors for MP3s.

For one, you can use a free software package called Ringtone Ripper, which allows you to make 20 second MP3 ringtones from all of the songs on your audio CDs and MP3 song collections.

You can also use generic audio editors. With these editors, you simply cut suitable clips, of about 30 seconds max, from your favorite MP3 songs as ringing tones.

The length depends not only on what your cell phone can handle memory-wise, but also on the fact that the call will usually be transferred to voicemail after 30-40 seconds of unanswered ringing.

These MP3 ringers may need to be edited, in order for you to be able to use them. Typically, you can cut the size of the file by changing the bit rate to e.g. 64Kbps.

Also, changing the song into mono might help it being able to play on your cell phone.

There are several tools to make the conversions and editing. For one, there is Audacity, also a free download.

Free Cingular MP3 Ringtones

You don't necessarily have to use rippers to make suitable size MP3 ringtones.

Instead, you can find MP3 audio files of the suitable length from, for example, Walmart Music Store.

These are 30 second audio previews of the CD tracks, and also make great ringing tones for your Cingular phone (don't go to the music downloads section for the previews, however).

The sizes of these Walmart MP3 files are typically of about 235 KB, so you may have to edit the files in order to fit them on your phone.
