Cell Phone Bill Guidelines

FCC cell phone bill guidelines require cell-phone bills to be "brief, clear, non- misleading and in plain language."

The FCC requirement guidelines are called "truth-in- billing" guidelines, and have been enforced in order for wireless customers to get clearer, shorter account statements from their cell phone companies without any unwarranted add-on fees.

These add-on fees have included such fees as "Regulatory Assessment Charges", which have been found in the lowest cost cell phone plans especially.

As cell phone use is nationwide, the FCC requirements for transparent wireless phone billing bring an uniform approach to the mix of regulations found in individual states.

The full extent by which the guidelines will be applied is not yet known. For example, some states have been in favour of some add-on fees, which have been used to finance local 911 services, for example.

Therefore, even though the guidelines try to prevent a multitude of state-by-state billing regulations, the states may still find it beneficial for some of the add-on fees to exist.
