Canon Digital Cameras
From early on, Canon has been developing its proprietary solutions for digital cameras. Of the digital camera technologies, Canon saw early on the need for developing its own digital image processing technologies. Canon's first digital image processing IC debuted in the PowerShot S10 in 1999. In 2002, Canon announced the next major advance: DIGIC. DIGIC improves the signal processing algorithm, which results in improved picture quality, more accurate autofocus, and faster image processing speed. Another innovation, iSAPS (Intelligent Scene Analysis based on Photographic Space), is a Canon technology that applies statistical analysis to dramatically improve the performance of AF (Autofocus), AE (Auto Exposure ), and AWB (Auto White Balance). Canon has also been a pioneer in lens technology. In fact, Canon is the only company in the world that designs, develops and manufactures its own cameras, lenses, image sensors, and image processors. Also, the company shares research and information among development teams, and keeps the entire creation and production of a digital camera product in-house.
