Broadband Zones
Broadband zones is a service provided by Broadband Central USA, one of the biggest wireless broadband service providers in the Western U.S.
Formed in November 2002, Broadband Central aims to bring affordable high-speed Internet connectivity to communities that otherwise lack widespread broadband access.
The wireless broadband service is provided under the brand name Blue Zone.
Each Blue Zone by Broadband Central allows residents within a one-mile diameter area to connect wirelessly to the Internet at broadband speeds.
To provide this service, the company uses proprietary 22-inch diameter 802.11 compliant Blue Zone sites, with each device utilizing three smart antennas and radio transceivers developed and manufactured by the company.
At customer locations, the company installs a corresponding eight-inch diameter antenna/client device on-site to provide “always on” high-speed Internet access.
Here's an example of what the Blue Zone antenna looks like when installed:

Availability of Broadband Zones
Blue Zone broadband access is available at least in 22 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
To check whether the zones cover your residential area, you can use an online checker provided by the company.
This service is located at the company's web site for the Blue Zone service, at thebluezone.com.
