Bell Labs Innovates a Printed Computer Chip

Bell Labs has a new technology for making computer chips with technology similar to the one that is used to print magazines. These types of chips could be used in flexible computer screens, for one.

This technology is getting a really strong backing from the industry, as many companies are already working on organic circuitry printing, a process that would enable computer chips to be mass-produced by the thousands on thin, flexible plastic sheets.

However, just last week, Lucent Technologies', Bell Labs, Germany-based BASF Future Systems, and Printed Systems made the announcement on world's first working circuit made using regular printing methods.

Other notable developer among the competition to provide working methods for making printed computer chips is Xerox.

Of those companies that are going to make the method into commercial products, BASF has stated that they expect to have marketable products within 3 years.
