AT&T Ringtones

AT&T ringtones are offered in great variety. You can choose ringers both for the traditional AT&T cell phones as well as for the advanced mMode cell phones (you’ll need a plan that supports mMode).

Before you attempt to download ringtones, you have to first check that the cell phone is capable of downloading AT&T ringers.

Also, in order to be able to download the ringers with text messaging (if you use that method), you also need to have text messaging capability in your AT&T plan.

AT&T Ringtones Service

The official AT&T ringer service has ringtones in the thousands.

In order to receive ringtones, there are several requirements:

A ringtone-capable phone. The compatible phones include LG C1300, LG L1400, Motorola RAZR V3, Motorola V180, Motorola V220, Motorola V400, Motorola V551, Nokia 1100, Nokia 6010, Nokia 6230, Nokia 6620, Nokia N-Gage QD, Samsung X427M, Siemens C61, Sony Ericsson T237, and Sony Ericsson T637

Text Messaging for monophonic ringtones service; Wireless Internet or Wireless Internet Express for all other types of ringtones

The ringers in this service start at $0.99 cents each for monotonic tones.

AT&T polyphonic ringtones are priced at $1.99 per tone for exclusive major label ringtones from Disney, Warner, and others. Additional charges apply for kilobytes or minutes used while downloading.

Also, there are SuperTones, which are short snippets of MP3/WAV (depending on your cell phone) music used as ringing tones. Their price ranges from $1.99 to $2.49 and additional charges apply for kilobytes or minutes used while downloading.

Subscribing AT&T Ringtones

The service uses very convenient ways to subscribe the ringers.

For example, if you want to download the monotonic ringers, you can do so with a SMS message. In fact, once you’ve registered, you don’t have to access web at all, as you can subscribe different monotonic ringtone lists (that contain the needed keywords) with a SMS.

The full list of ways to get the AT&T ringers includes:

Online: At the attwireless.com site, go to "Ringtones & Graphics". Find a title, then select Buy. Enter your information. The download will be sent to your phone and charges will appear on your monthly bill.

Phone via Wireless Internet: Access the Wireless Internet on your wireless phone. Select Ringtones or Graphics, then pick a title. Download will be sent to your phone. Charges will appear on your monthly bill.

Phone via Text Messaging: Create a text message on your wireless phone. The exact instructions of the message are available on the Ringtones web site. Send the message to the service number. Download will be sent to your phone. Charges will appear on your monthly bill.

AT&T Ringtones With mMode

The most exciting AT&T ringtones are provided in the mMode service.

mMode is based on the Japanese i-Mode and FOMA services that NTT DoCoMo, the Japanese wireless giant, operates.

Most of the mMode phones are capable of downloading AT&T ringtones.

mMode is much more than just ringtones. The service also has wireless office applications, location services, games, text based information services, and more.

With mMode, you can subscribe to a variety of music services apart from ringtones. As for ringers, the AT&T ringtones for mMode come from companies such as AOL Music and Warner Music.

In order to get the mMode ringtones, you have to have a plan that supports mMode. The cheapest add-on mMode service (additional cost on top of the regular cell phone plan) starts at $2.99 a month.

Coverage area for mMode is, according to AT&T information, the same as the coverage for GPRS/EDGE services, so you have to check if these services are available in your area.
