When you sign up to AOL Broadband UK, you will receive a wireless router that is estimated to be worth £50 (as of March 2008, only available to the new customers that sign up to a minimum of 18-month contract on any DSL broadband package). With the router you can easily set-up a wireless home network that will allow you to share your broadband connection with all your home computers. With the AOL Broadband router, you can set up a home network for up to 6 computers or other wireless enabled devices such as games consoles. All these devices can be logged onto the internet at the same time and at no extra cost. Remember that you need to have DSL filters on phone sockets, attached to every phone socket that you use the broadband with in your house. If you don't, it can affect the quality of your broadband service. You can increase the security of your home network with setting up a WPA encryption on your modem router. This encryption makes it harder for outsiders to access the data as it passes over your wireless network, preventing unauthorised users from accessing your network. You must set up encryption on each wireless adapter you are using to connect computers to your network. |
